The Princess of Wales's Yearly Christmas Musical Celebration Pays Tribute to Community Volunteers
The Princess of Wales is hosting her customary Yuletide celebration at the historic Abbey, with attendees featuring dignitaries, stars, and everyday helpers who have helped their communities.
The large audience will hear a mix of carols, music and readings from performers including Chiwetel Ejiofor and Kate Winslet.
Focusing on Love and Generosity
The focus of the service, held in the atmospheric historic church on Friday, is compassion and demonstrating care for others.
Among the guests will be Anna and Jonathan Cordiner, whose child passed away from a tumour, and who founded an organisation, Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to support families who have a child with a terminal illness.
"Your efforts, love, and understanding, often quietly and unspoken, and without any hope for reward or acknowledgement, make an extraordinary difference to the circumstances of individuals," the Princess expressed in a note prior to the carol service.
A Gradual Return
The princess has been making her own steady comeback to the public eye following her health challenges and treatment, in November making her initial major address in two years, in which she discussed recognising the "discreet, frequently unseen labour of caregivers".
Music and Opportunity
Those coming to the Abbey will enjoy performances from budding artists backed by the Future Talent charity, established in part by the late Duchess of Kent to broaden opportunities for music lessons.
An 18-year-old named Carys Wood, who plays the trumpet and is from southwest Wales, has been supported by the trust, with grants helping towards musical instruments, lessons and travel costs - and she said it was "incredible" to be playing at the evening's event.
"Musical pursuits are frequently pricey," the musician remarked. She is now a student at the prestigious music academy, and added that "everyone should have the opportunity" to develop their musical skills.
A Sisterly Duo
Eliza, Carys's sister who is 11, who plays the euphonium, will likewise attend the Abbey. "I never imagined I would perform in front of so many notable figures," she said.
Within the audience will be representatives of different generations.
That will include nine-year-old Saphia Turner, honouree of a youth community award, who sells artwork and carries out sponsored challenges to generate funds for local food charities.
Yuletide Atmosphere and Acts
The Abbey has been festooned with handcrafted festive wreaths, with celebrity baker Mary Berry and floral designer Simon Lycett contributing to their design.
Taking to the stage will be Katie Melua, the Abbey's own choir and a nautical singing ensemble, Fisherman's Friends, who said the chance to take part was "a dream come true."
The Together at Christmas carol concert will be aired by a major network on Christmas Eve.
