This January transfer market proves to be a period of significant rumour and possible major transfers. Numerous prominent players are being connected to moves away from their current clubs. We examine a selection of the major figures that could be on the move in January.

Antoine Semenyo

Although Ghana's inability to qualify for the AFCON, which has kept the forward in contention, it appears an important transfer is imminent. The 25-year-old possesses a deal with a £65 million release clause active for a short period in early January. Recent reports suggest Manchester City have emerged as his services. Other interested parties such as Tottenham and Chelsea are said to have moved on to other options, potentially opening the door for clubs such as Manchester United or Liverpool to make a late bid.

This England centre-back has continued to impress for Crystal Palace despite a summer transfer to Anfield collapsing. Yet, a January departure is considered unlikely, especially given the coach's reliance on the defender.

Brennan Johnson

The Welsh winger has found first-team opportunities hard to come by at Tottenham this campaign. Although finishing as the side's top scorer the previous campaign, Johnson has begun just a small number of Premier League games. Reports suggest the London outfit is willing to consider a sale for the correct price, thought to be in the region of £40 million. The Cherries are currently leading the chase, with Crystal Palace, Aston Villa, and Brentford additionally credited with an inquiry.

R. Neves

The Portugal midfielder could be poised for a return to the Premier League after a period in Saudi Arabia. Still just 28, and with his agreement ending in the summer, he is a possible opportunity. Teams such as Manchester United and Liverpool are linked with the player. Additionally, there have been suggestions from Spain that he is willing to accept a reduced salary for a move to Real Madrid.

Marc-André ter Stegen

This experienced German goalkeeper finds himself as third-choice at Barcelona under new coach Hansi Flick. After fallen out of favour and had an operation, a winter exit seems highly likely. Villa were once mentioned as a possible destination, but that option currently seems off. Instead, interest from Turkey and Saudi Arabia are reportedly showing curiosity in the keeper.

Ivan Toney

This proven England centre-forward has kept finding the net regularly in the Middle East. Coming back to the Premier League might enhance his dwindling hopes of making the national World Cup. Following impressing at the Under-19 European Championship, Smit has broken into the AZ Alkmaar first team. The teenager is heavily expected to make a big-money transfer this month. Newcastle reportedly are leading the chase, but could face strong competition from the Spanish champions for a deal priced at around twenty-two million pounds.
