Introduction

Our correspondent is about to begin to take you through today's short race (14:00 GMT) and qualifying (18:00 GMT).

Real-Time Updates

Formation Lap Time

The starting lap has begun.

Track Information

There are nineteen laps of the longest circuit in F1, the commentator informs us.

Final Moments

The last moments is on.

Driver Situation

An advantage in Max Verstappen's favour: his fellow driver Yuki Tsunoda is ahead of him by one place. He is unlikely to challenge Red Bull's lead driver.

Interview Updates

Sky interviewing Sky currently: the analyst is with Mercedes.

The analyst is jumping ahead to 2026, interviewing Adrian Newey about his stepping up to Aston Martin team principal.

Starting Positions

Just 16 cars on the grid. This followed another poor grid-setting session for Lewis Hamilton: after coming 20th and last in the previous race, resulting in an eighth-place finish in the main race, he failed to make it out of Q1 once more on Friday. Ferrari have consequently made changes to his car configuration and so he will start from the starting area.

The team's Stroll and the Alpine pair of Pierre Gasly and Colapinto are all starting from the same position.

Driver Comments

"We'll use the learning for the next day," states Hadjar, starting eleventh. Expect plenty of learning.

Team Standings

The focus isn't solely on the individual championship: The team have dominated the team championship but the team, with a 40-point lead over Red Bull, will be hoping to secure the runner-up position this weekend. George Russell can assist in this goal from second place, and Antonelli will begin immediately after Verstappen.

Previous Results

Piastri won that day – as he did the previous season, as well. McLaren's Australian is going for a third consecutive win.

Short Race Importance

Alright, just over twenty minutes to go till the short race gets under way. Unless something goes wrong, its main importance is as an indication of what is to come, instead of significant in its own right, with just eight championship points awarded to the winner. Mind you, second place in this race was sufficient for Verstappen to claim the title in a prior season.

Max Verstappen claimed the championship after Pérez crashes out of the short race.
