Jones additionally emphasized that the gesture was entirely unintentional, occurring amid the excitement following the team’s final touchdown. “I simply put up the incorrect digit,” he remarked. “It was accidentally performed. I’m not kidding. If you want to call it unplanned, you can. But it got corrected rapidly.”

This is not the initial instance an league proprietor has been penalized for inappropriate behavior. Recent cases include:
- Panthers owner David Tepper was fined $300,000 for tossing a beverage at spectators in January 2024.
